Here’s an update regarding the officer-involved shooting at Lake Columbia.
Michigan State Police say the incident occurred at approximately 2:09 am, today (March 31) in the 100 block of Hawthorne Drive. 36 year old Erik Poul Moller Nielsen from Lake Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police say the incident started with a Columbia Township police officer dispatched to a medical assist. State Police add the events leading up to the shooting are still under investigation. Once complete, the investigation will be forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutors Office for review.
Police Chief Jay Niles says the Columbia Township officer has 6 years of law enforcement experience, and was not injured. He has been placed on administrative leave, per Department policy.
