As dusk descends on Clark Lake each July 4th, luminaries line its shores.  The soft glow precedes the more raucous celebration later on, as various Clark Lakers light up the skies.  Increasingly, the luminaries have taken hold as part of Clark Lake’s Independence Day tradition.  The luminaries are a project of Raft-O-Rama.  Below, Raft-O-Rama committee members prepare luminaries.

To distribute the luminaries, Raft-O-Rama committee members will offer them by going door to door.  Of course, not everyone will be found at home when visited.  So, about a week to 10 days from the Fourth, you can pick up luminary supplies at Doyle’s Market.  The donation is $15 for 10 luminaries that come in a reusable canvas-like tote bag.  For DIY fans, the supplies are available for $10.

And according to tradition, Clark Lakers light them on the evening of July 4th, which is on a Sunday this year.  It’s part of the Clark Lake Spirit.

In this archived video, Joe Collins explains the process.
